Innana, also known as Ishtar, was the goddess of war, love, and fertility in ancient Mesopotamia. She was also associated with the morning and evening star, or as we now know it, the planet Venus. Innana once visited the Underworld. She was also killed there, but as she is supposed to be a goddess, she was resurrected. And that is one of her parables to Venus, since the planet disappears from the view of the sky for three days between its transition from morning to evening star.
